LITTLE GREEN THUMBS KIDS GARDEN CONTEST
Since 2019, the Little Green Thumbs program through Sustainable Food Edmonton started hosting a Kids Garden Contest for students to participate in each year. Our goal is to engage students, teachers and parents in a fun contest that allows students to express their creativity and stimulate their imagination around growing food. Below is a snapshot of contributions from students over the years.
2024 Contest for Classrooms - ‘Create a Fairy Garden’
We are inviting our Little Green Thumbs and Little Green Sprouts classes in Edmonton and area to participate in this contest by creating a Fairy Garden in a protected spot in the schoolyard.
Steps to Create your Fairy Garden:
1. This contest is for Little Green Thumbs and Little Green Sprouts teachers and their students.
2. Take a walk in your schoolyard. Is there a quiet, protected spot that makes you curious about small creatures? Do you think this place might attract fairies and other small creatures?
3. Have fun learning more about fairies; how they came to be, how they live, what personalities they have and special fairies we know. See below for some ideas.
4. Make a plan to create a special place for fairies and other tiny creatures that might live in a fairy garden.
5. Create your fairy garden and spend time with the magical creatures you have invited to your schoolyard.
Enter the Contest:
Send us a photo and short description of your completed Fairy Garden. If time is tight, we also accept a photo and description of your Fairy Garden Plan.
